The Task

In the table below we have listed three initiatives, please review these and answer the following questions.

Question 1

How would you prioritise these initiatives? Please rank them and explain your reasoning.

Answer

I set these priorities next: 2, 1, 3. In my opinion 2nd and 1st initiatives are critical, but the 1st idea demands a lot of internal work and coordination and the 2nd is more clear and there is more technical research and work for the DevOps team.

At the same time, CI/CD would affect the business part as it accelerates the delivery process and will relieve the Platform team that should improve our support work and the user experience as result.

So, we can start from the 2nd initiative and in parallel to start product part work with the 1st initiative. At the moment when engineering resources would be free we are able to start a second task. The 1st task is really huge for us as it should provide seamless rapid growth and onboarding new teammates for us.

Assume your squad is ready to start refining the initiative that you assigned the highest priority to in question 1 - please write out the high-level user stories you would provide them.

Answer

“As an engineer I would like to deploy my code the simpler, fast and smooth the better.”

“As an engineer lead I do not want my employee to spend a lot of time learning the deployment process.”

“As an engineer of the Platform team I do not want to get more cognitive load.”

Question 3

Assume your squad has built something that addresses all of the user stories from question 2. Please draft an email announcement that will be sent out to your stakeholders and the rest of the Tech department.

“Hi guys!

Glad to tell you we successfully updated our CI/CD pipelines and process of releasing new features. We started to use GitHub Actions that allow us to work faster and also keep the attention of the Platform team on definitely critical and important things instead of supporting.

It was really hard work and I would like to ask you to give a emoji/reactions to these heroes: Alexandro, Gabriala, Mahmud and Belinda!
